The client requested a complete redesign to this outdated kitchen. Priorities included creating a space that is more functional while improving the circulation through and around the space. Additionally, our client felt that the kitchen was very closed off from the rest of the living areas on the first floor.
We proposed an open-plan solution open to the formal dining room and stair. All the cabinets were replaced with a dark wood finish, contrasted with a white countertop. We specified stainless steel appliances as well as more modern lighting. An island was proposed with built-in shelving for cookbooks and a space was built into the countertop to grow fresh herbs.
Another significant design element was replacement of the existing sliding doors that lead into the backyard. These were replaced by a modern system in which these glass doors could be completely folded back to create a seamless connection with the outdoors.
